Basketball is Booming!

Basketball is Booming!

With registration numbers at a record high in Domestic and Representative Leagues all around Melbourne and the NBL posting its highest ever round two attendance – basketball is booming!

“Victoria is the home of basketball – more people hit the court here each week than in any other state and [we] will help basketball keep growing in Victoria from the grassroots to elite level.”

Lauren Jackson celebrates with her Opals after a Bronze Medal victory against Canada

From over ten new courts in South East Melbourne alone, to 339,300 kids currently playing basketball in Australia, it makes sense that the Aussie Hoops program has seen an increase in participation by 13.6 percent. Inspiring this push are our national teams bringing home medals in bulk across all international competitions:

•          Bronze – Opals, 2022 FIBA World Cup

•          Bronze – Boomers, 2020 Tokyo Olympics

•          Gold – Gliders, 2022 IWBF AOZ Championships

•          Gold – Rollers, 2022 IWBF AOZ Championships

•          Gold – U17 Sapphires, 2022 FIBA U16 Asia Championship

•          Gold – U17 Crocs, 2022 FIBA U16 Asia Championship

The NBA has seen an influx of Aussies in recent years with three Australian draftees in 2021/22, including pick six, Melbourne’s Josh Giddey and pick eight, Bendigo’s Dyson Daniels. That makes eleven Aussie men playing in the NBA in 2021/22.  Add to that nine women currently playing in the WNBA and Australians are representing themselves in volume on the big stage.

At Chase Basketball, our mission has always been bigger than basketball. Our belief is that what we teach on-court sets athletes up with the tools to maximise their fitness, mental health, personal development and teamwork skills.

With the growth in the sport, we couldn’t be more excited to spread positivity on a larger than ever scale.

Basketball is booming – don’t miss out!
